Athletics
From start to finish, Darrow supports the goal of having sports be a positive
experience in students’ high school careers. The program is an inclusive one, and, because Darrow is a small school, all students who want to participate get the chance to play.
On the fields and on the courts, and even on the back roads and paths of the School, Darrow students test their physical limits as members of school teams and in individual sports. Continuing their education outside the classroom, they work on skills of the game—scoring goals, perfecting serves, and playing offense and defense. They build stamina and coordination—running, jumping, and exercising. And, very importantly, they learn good sportsmanship.

As part of a team, students learn how to succeed in a group cooperative experience with their fellow students and coaches, realizing that the shared effort put into a game and the way the game is played are, in the end, as important as the final score. Of course, Darrow teams also relish the thrill of victory through teamwork and athletic vigor.
Interscholastic teams compete in soccer, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, and tennis. Each season, non-competitive choices are also offered, including skiing and snowboarding, outdoor education, and general
fitness/conditioning. In recent years, other offerings have included fencing, mountain biking, and dance, based on faculty availability and expertise.
