Darrow's deliberately inquisitive approach helps students discover meaning across a curriculum that offers a sequence of core courses in the arts, sciences, history, math, English, and languages. To support and encourage the tremendous growth and change that students achieve during high school, Darrow’s curriculum increases in sophistication to broaden and deepen student learning. Darrow’s hands-on program encompasses all areas of the students’ academic experience and is focused on developing college-level skills, real-world application of ideas, and an appreciation for sustainability.
Darrow’s academic approach is based on the conviction that students learn best when they are fully engaged in the learning process, when they acquire information and construct meaning beginning with themselves, and when they are free to test ideas by trial and error. With an average class size of nine, students are able to access the guidance and resources that make this approach meaningful and that define an authentic, collaborative learning community. Darrow teachers create learning environments that are designed to push students toward their maximum potential. They recognize the importance of academic skills and core knowledge as elements that emerge from the process of grasping larger concepts.
